Larry Halvorsen is an outstanding, award-winning Northwest ceramicist. He describes himself as self-taught, with more than 25 years experience working with clay (Halvorsen Clay, n.d.). His artwork, black and white stoneware, is reminiscent of tribal and ancient images that reflect the variety of patterns and designs found in the natural world. Halvorsen served for two years in the Peace Corps, and the influence of his exposure to the Pre-Colombian pottery techniques while serving in the highlands of Guatemala is evident in his work today.
